Windows 2000 SP4 and SQL Server 2000

  • I noticed something partricular in the order you install the sp4. When Win2k sp4 is installed on a server that has sql2k sp3, the SQL version changes to 8.00.818. When sql2k is installed with sp3 or sp3a on win2k sp4, the version remains at 8.00.760. I cannot find any references within win2k sp4 where sql server is updated or what impact there might be......Any help would be appreciated.

It appears the SQL Server version is changed with win2k sp4 or the SQL Security Hot fix. Can anyone confirm this?

  • Build number 818 indicates you have installed MS03-031: Cumulative Security Patch for SQL Server that was released recently and Win2k SP4 shouldn't include it. SP4 was published for download around 6/26/2003.

Build 760 is the number after installing SQL Server SP3/SP3a.
