Passed 70-215

  • One down and three to go !!! I passed the Windows 2000 Server test last weekend and now I'm on to 70-228. For anyone planning to take 70-215, here is what I used:

    Sybex study guide (good base)

Microsoft Readiness Review (not worth the time or money)

    Cramsession study guide (good review)

    Transcender practice exams (outstanding)

Transcender flash cards (OK, but not great)

Without the Transcender exams I surely would have failed. They really let me focus my studying and build my confidence. Good luck to anyone taking 70-215...

pro2003 - I hope you are not referring to the book "MCDBA SQL Server 2000 All-in-One Exam Guide" by Perkovich. I bought this from a local store on sale for $9 solely to use the sample test on the included cd. The book itself was marginal at best, not a good test prep, more of a basic intro. However, the abundance of errors was astounding. In addition, the test software was horrible. Many questions ask you to choose two or three solutions, but then only allows you to choose one (radio buttons instead of checkboxes), then the same question is marked correct or incorrect depending on which single solution was chosen.

I definitely recommend using another source to prep for the sql exams. Transcender tests and flash cards are well worth the money. Ditto for a lot of sql server books on the market. Kalen Delany's "Inside SQL Server 2000" and Ken England's "SQL Server 2000 Performance Optimization and Tuning Handbook" are two good choices. Not as shortcuts for the exam, but just to gain a better understanding of the concepts the exam covers.

Other good books are the two MSPress Self Paced Training Kits for the individual exams (70-228 and 70-229). These have good overall coverage of each major topic you will find on the test. Keep in mind that these are very topical and should be supplemented with other meterials (ie. BOL)

Of course, BOL has practically all the info you need, but you need a lot of patience to wade through it all in that format.

    Hope this helps...

  • Congatulations, I have passed 228, 229 and 215 is my next one - not looking forward to it.

  • Congratulations....

I have passed the 2 SQL Server Exams towards MCDBA. Now I have to take 215. Since the DBA does not perform that function where I work I am a little apprehensive. Is it worth taking MS Course 2152 in preparation, plus aome sort of test exam?

  • Congratualtions.

Glynne_Smith, I read the Sybex book, the examcram, and the Transcender and passed in the 90 percentile. Read the Sybex book. Take the Transcender. Re-Read the sections where you scored low. Read the examcram for just the information. Take the second Transcender, repeat.

    Bonne chance.
