Email Delivery Fails, but File share works ok

  • I am learning RS on my laptop (XP pro SP1) and I can get my reports working fine including subscriptions delivered by file share, but when I try to send by email it fails.  I get the Status message of

Failure sending mail: The Report Server has encountered a configuration

error; more details in the log files

My data source is running as my domain account and the only 2 values in my

RSReportServer.config file are my exchange server (smtp) and my email address

    <SMTPServer>smtp.XXXX.com</SMTPServer>

    and

    <From>x.x@xxxx.com</From>

I do not understand why the email fails.

    any help greatly appreciated.

    TIA

    Neil.

  • Would you believe I posted a few paragraphs on this last week but for some reason it failed to hit the admin queue?!?!

Go to this url http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;842423 and hopefully, like mine, yuors will be rectified by changing the account under which RS windows service runs.

What's really weird about this is our email subs had been working for months, then they started to hit intermittnt errors, then applying RS SP2 seemed to ensure those errors became permanent.  What was your experience?  Did they ever work?

NB also, the emails *will* (or at least *should*) work when you *don't* have an attachment (eg excel) and fail when you do.  This is actually part of the test to see if this is indeed your issue.

    HTH,

    Steve.
