Downloading the trial edition for a 32bit machine

  • I've downloaded Sql 2005 on a 64bit machine, but it won't install on my xp pro laptop (32bit o/s).

What sql trial edition do I need ?

    thank you,

    Bob

  • You need a 64-bit OS to install 64-bit SQL Server.  Since this is a laptop that you mentioned, it will be the x64 version.

    Hope this helps!

  • There's appears to be a 32bit version of sql 2005 according to : http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=6931FA7F-C094-49A2-A050-2D07993566EC&displaylang=en

    System Requirements

    • Supported Operating Systems: Windows 2000 Service Pack 4; Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1; Windows XP Service Pack 2

    • 32-bit systems

      • Computer with Intel or compatible Pentium III 600 MHz or faster processor (1 GHz or faster is recommended.)

    • 64-bit systems

      • 1 GHz or higher processor

    • Minimum of 512 MB of RAM (1 GB or more is recommended.)
    • 675 MB of available hard disk space

  • After re-registering for the download, it provided the option to download the x86 version. I think I'm all set to test it on my laptop now.

I'm actually looking to test replication between my server and my laptop. Any good tutorials out there you can recommend ?

    Thanks,

    Bob

  • Books Online is good place to start.
