Sql 2000 Calls slow over E1 link

  • I currently run a CRM called Elucid which uses a SQL 2000 Enterprise DB . Approx 60 - 70 users are linked via an E1. The Database is approx 80GB in size. Speed for Lan users is fine, but the users who connect via the Wan are reporting that the application is very slow. The CRM application is run locally so only sql calls go over the WAN. Traffic levels on the Wan are no where near capacity.  We use SQL authentication and TCPIP connections. (named pipes is even slower). The Database is Re indexed weekly. The server is a Proliant ML530 G2 with 4 GB ram and 12 x 36.4GB 15K U320 Hard drives configured Raid 1/0. Cpu utilisation is about 20%. Does anyone have any ideas how I can speed up response?

    Thanks

    Chris

  • If you are not seeing resource contention on the database server and response times for your LAN users is fine, this is not a database issue.  Just because the WAN traffic levels are not maxed out does not mean that there is not a routing issue or an issue with bad network hardware somewhere along the line.  Have your WAN guys help trace the route and identify possible performance slowdowns and/or unnecessary hops.
