Connecting to remote server without terminal services!!

  • hi

I've got many servers to work on simultaneously, that will be comparing the results or reports from servers.

So I dont think Query Analyser or Enterprise Manager wont suit my requirement because I need to login to the multiple servers and I dont want to open multiple windows andwork on that.

Instead I need work from single window thats cmd-line.

Also I think Microsoft wont supported working on cmd line for multiple servers because they want to sell the GUI tools QA and EM.

    please help me out.

    Harris.

  • What is actually your question? You would like to operate (execute and stuff) remotely by using only the command line?

Take a look at http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/PsExec.html by our old friends at SysInternals!

But then again, getting GUI feedback (which you hopefully do not need) remotely from the command line is a delicate task

  • I don't want GUI tools at all.

All I want to use is only cmd line..

Meaning I dont want to use 'mstsc' to connect.

    Is there any other way??

  • Run -->cmd :

    mstsc /V:servername /console

Get busy living ....or get busy dying....

  • Thank you very much..

Though I wanted to work from the same command promt, its ok I can work out from a different.

If the server is Windows NT 4.0 how do we connect to the server which doesn't support terminla services or mstsc.

  • You didn't read the link about PSEXEC I wrote, did you?

  • Excerpt from the first lines on the PSEEC homepage:

PsExec is a light-weight telnet-replacement that lets you execute processes on other systems, complete with full interactivity for console applications, without having to manually install client software. PsExec's most powerful uses include launching interactive command-prompts on remote systems and remote-enabling tools like IpConfig that otherwise do not have the ability to show information about remote systems.
