upgrading to SQL Server 2005

  • Hello!

    Please help!

To produce reports and learn the new features of SQL Server 2005, I installed SQL Server 2005 with Reporting Services and connected it to the SQL Server 2000 production box. It works pretty well. Now I need to convert our SQL Server 2000 production to SQL Server 2005. Everything looks confusing and scary. Should I install Reporting Services on production, or will it be better to create reports on a remote box with SQL Server 2005 and Reporting Services? Can somebody recommend a link with clear instructions on how to upgrade cluster service from 2000 to 2005? Should I use the ‘migration’ or the ‘upgrade’ method for the cluster? Is it possible to get Microsoft Online Support?

I would appreciate any help and advice regarding this matter.

  • We just finished installing 2005 on our production box. Its was pretty simple. We did the inplace upgrade the only difference from the other environemnts (QA, UA) was the cluster. There was a prompt that asked if I wanted to upgrade the cluster, that was the only difference between the environments. Here is a link to get you started
