sql 2005 upgrade advisor warnings

  • When I run the upgrade advisor on two servers ( one has some dts packages, no metadata packages and the other has neither), I get a warning regarding metadata packages not supported and a need to move them to the MSDB. The advisor also reports that one object is affected:

    Source Type: MSDB

    Package Location: ServerName

    Instances: 1

Is this a general message that will appear regardless of the existence of metadata packages? I see no metadata packages on either server that it is reporting on??

    Thanks

  • It is a general message. I get it every time I run Upgrade Advisor and I've never stored packages in Meta Data Services. As you noted, it also displays on servers with no packages at all.

  • That is supposed to be for packages stored in metadata services instead of the regular msdb location. It could be a generic error appearing because of something else with DTS. I know that any script tasks will cause a warning.

Since there are no dts packages at all in one case what could then drive this warning?

    Thanks
