SQL Server 2005 - Which Version?

    We currently run a single processor license of SQL Server 2000.

    We are planning on buying a 2005 license later in the year (technically a 2008 license and then using downgrade rights).

    As a non-DBA I'm trying to understand what we're likely to be doing on a single CPU SQL 2000 Standard server that we couldn't do with Express or Workgroup (though tbh the price difference between Workgroup and Standard seems small)?

    I know our databases are small, I know we use DTS packages and have various maintenance plans and jobs scheduled to do various imports/exports to other systems as well as backups of course.

    I've ready this SQL Comparison and I'm struggling to know what much of it equates to in terms of what we use now.

    Oh the joys of trying to get my head around SQL Server as a non-DBA.

    You could get away with the Workgroup version. Express has a maximum database size of 4GB and it doesn't have job scheduling capabilities. I wouldn't recommend it.

    Please correct me if I wrong, but I think that a workgroup edition will not support the DTS packages.
