Documenting a Database

  • i just started at a new company, and one of the first projects they assigned me the task of documenting structures and relationships as well as finding redundant fields in the existing structures, that sort of thing. Anybody have any ideas on how to go about doing this. They want me to use Visio or Word, to produce the document. Any ideas on how I shold approach this?

  • Start with using Visio to reverse engineer a diagram of the database... hopefully, they actually used Foreign Keys...

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.
"Change is inevitable... change for the better is not".
