sql cluster

  • I'm getting forced to add another SQL instance to a active/passive cluster to make it active/active. I'm having issues getting this up and running correctly. I want to have seperate nics for the second instance, also would like to have the second instance completely running on the second node. I am unable to get the Nic's added to the cluster administrator as a resource. So when I go to install sql I can choose the proper nic other wise it will only see the current nic.

any and all help would be greatly appreceated on how I should go about getting this configured properly.

    Thanks,

  • Why do you want to add extra NICS?

  • If you forget about adding the NICS, it is very simple to add an extra instance and let it run on the second node. Make sure that both nodes have enough resources to run all the instances(In case of a failover).

  • You can add an extra instance without extra nics.

I agree with Ignacio - make sure you have enough resources in case of failover.

Do you even see the extra nics in device manager?

  • You can simply install second instance or named instance on the newly active node without any nic.
