excel 2007 pivot on ssas

  • Hi everyone,

    I am new to this.

I built a pivot report in excel 2007 on a SSAS cube on my local pc. Now I want to send this pivot report to other people to make them be able to view the pivot report and do some analysis by themselves (expanding year-month-day etc).

When my colleague tried he couldn't expand.

    How can I achieve this?

    Thank you, Nian

  • Have you given them access to the cube?

  • He can open the spread sheet and see the contents as I saved it (e.g. he can see data under months as I saved it.). But he couldn't expand the month to see data of each date in that month, which I can on my machine.

  • Sounds like he doesn't have access to the cube or cannot connect to your machine

Have you granted them access to the cube?

If you have, did you use localhost when connecting to your locally held cube?

It might be best to have this cube on a server...

  • Yes, it seems like a connection problem. I am new to this excel pivot thing. I saw under Data->connections, there is a connection connect to my local cube. Should I create a new connection using my server name (instead of 'local') and give the windows user name/password of my machine and send this .odc to my colleague? Unfortunately although he is my colleague we are in different locations so can't go to his place and see what happened. And I saw 'connection files on network' when I tried to create a connection. Is this something that supposed to solve the problem?

    Thks.
