Using Access ADPs when Enterprise Manager isnt loaded

  • I don't know how many of you have experienced this, but I've had to work on workstations that didn't have Enterprise Manager loaded and until I learned about using Access ADP's, I used Excel and VBA to view the data.  Not very pretty.

The AWESOME thing about ADP's is you don't need a DSN, you can edit data, schema, views, functions, etc.

You don't need to do anything to load all of the objects from the database into the ADP.

The only negative I've seen is the lack of multiple database views, you have to create an ADP for each Database.

  • They come in very handy and are easy to create on the fly.

  • You only have to change the connection information if you want to use the same file, but I find it easier to use one db with a meaningful name and leave the connection information intact
