SQL Profiler - Minimum Security needs

  • Hi can anyone help

I have been thrown in at the deep end and am now looking after the companies SQL servers for both a systems administrator and a database administrator role..  I have been asked to setup a SQL Profiler account and have been told to give it sa rights… Can I not lower the security?  We have an amazing bunch of meddlers here and to give them an sa account is not a good idea. What is the minimum security rights you need to give to SQL Profiler

  • For SQL 2000 it is SA unfortunately. SQL 2K5 doesn't require SA.

  • You always have the option of setting up a trace and dumping to a trace table. You can give those who don't have sa access rights to SELECT from that trace table.
