Default Instance

    I have a default instance and a named instance on one server. Is it possible to change which is the default?

    No, not by any normal means. Is there a reason you need to?

    I have a server where there was a default instance that I couldn't use because it was in use by NetManage (per our network admins). We added a new instance to be used by a piece of software for documentation archiving so we added a named instance. When we tried to install the software, it wanted the default instance, not the named instance, so we thought we'd might be able to switch the instances around.

    Well, you should be able to move the databases from one instance to the other.  I think what I would do (if feasible) would be to uninstall my named instance, create a new named instance for NetManage, move the databases, then use the default instance for your application.
