Enterprise Manager Does Not Recognize New Disk

  • We have a cluster server.  O/S is Win2K SP4 and DBMS is SQL Server 2000 SP3.  We added disk to the storage array.  I changed the SQL Server BackupDirectory registry key to use the new disk drive.  The backup jobs that us the relative path are working just fine, meaning they write to the new disk.  However, when using Enterprise Manager's Backup utility, the drive is not recognized.  Can anyone explain this?

  • Make sure the new disk resource is in SQL Server group.

  • Excellent point, Allen.  I failed to mention that the new disk group is in the SQL Server group.  I validated this via the Cluster Administrator.

  • You also have to configure SQL Server resource to depend on this new disk resource.

  • Please explain.

  • When you open the properties for SQL resource, the second tab is for Dependencies. Make sure that the new disk is included under resource dependencies.
