PHANTOM jobs run by SQL server agent

  • Hi all,

This is very puzzling to me.

I created a DTS package and scheduled it to run at 1:30am daily. Then, the scheduled job was removed and recreated again few times. And strange thing started happening, this job now somehow appears to be run twice. The first run at 1:15am and the next is at 1:30am as scheduled.

So first I experimented rescheduling the job to run at a later time, say, 4pm in the afternoon, and it ran as scheduled. Then, I disable the job to see what happen in the following morning. Sure enough, the job ran at 1:15am again.

It looks like that there is actually a job scheduled somewhere in the SQL server agent that it does not show up the job listing.

Does anyone know how to correct this strange problem?

    Thanks in advance.

    Brian.

  • You may want to try querying the sysjobs table in the msdb database to see if there is an entry there that for some reason is not showing up in Enterprise Manager.

  • Hi Gordon,

Before I posted my problem to this forum, I've checked all those "sys" tables in msdb database and found nothing's wrong.

  • Hi Gorden,

As u had checked all the tables i suggest the sysjobschudles and see the stat time and job status .

If the enetry fo the respective time is not entered then pls check the operator for that job.May be still active.

As i tried and get the same as u so i droped the stored procedure and created again and it is working fine.

U also check sysjobserver table in msdb database and see how many times the job is running .

    any ques feel free
