Getting an error after upgrading to SQL 2005

  • In the last couple of days I've upgraded from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005.  Now, whenever anyone logs onto our system they immediately get a popup dialog box that says:

Error: The System cannot find the file specified.

I think it has something to do with SQL Server 2000 having been on my system, but now SQL Server 2005 is on it.  How do I fix this problem?

  • Do you mean logs into the console of the server / workstation? Check the startup stuff and the logs to see what file isn't being found or a clue as to which system isnt' working.

I have ss2k and ss2k5( apr/june/sept/rtm, all uninstalled, reinstalled) on my laptop (XP) and it works great!

  • Yes, Steve, I do mean the user logs into the console on the workstation.  I'm running Windows XP Professional SP2.  I'm looking under All Users's Startup folder and I see that the Service Manager app for SQL Server is still there.

Is the Service Manager still a part of SQL Server 2005?

  • Is the Service Manager that was a part of SQL Server 2000 and runs in the system tray, still a part of SQL Server 2005?
