Hi.....I am currently logged into the server as the administrator and using the MSSMS to manage it....but when i right click on the SQL Agent the options to Stop Start etc are grayed out. I know that I am logged in properly but is there something I may be missing in order to do this properly?

What edition of sql server you are using?
Check in SQL SERVER configuration manager..
If it is express SQL Agent will not be available.

open up command prompt as administrator:
net start sqlserveragent
