how to Delete old data from an excel file through DTS

    My DTS extract data from the database and export to an excel file, i want to delete previous data from the excel file and just export new one.

    for some resons i dont want to delete excel file and recreate it, neither i want to append the data.

    Is it possible through DTS....without creating Linked server with excel file.

    For what reason is it unnecessary to delete the file and recreate it? Whether you drop and recreate or truncate gives basically the same result.

    Whenever I have had to do this sort of thing, I have always used an empty template of the excel workbook (often there are macros or other worksheets which have to be in there along with the data).  It is easier (and less risky) than trying to delete existing data.
