Install BIDS on client with no IIS Service

  • Hello,

We are trying to install Business Intelligence Development Studio for client tools use (WinXP Pro SP2), but our corp profiles have no IIS service running, blocking installation. Is there a work-around, we need BIDS for SSIS and BI development. Thx.

  • Could you provide more details on how your installation of BIDS is being blocked? I have BIDS installed on my workstations and we don't have IIS installed on the workstations, so I am a little confused that you are having trouble with the install.

  • Its seems there is improper installation of your SSBIS. Un-install the same and do a fresh installation.

  • Our client tools were originally installed via a pre-built MSI installation object. In our Program Files Group within item MS SQL Server 2005, we have 'Analysis Services', 'Configuration Tools', 'Performance Tools', and 'SQL Server Management Studio', but no BIDS. I went to Ctrl Panel/Change Programs, selected Microsoft SQL Server 2005/Change/SQL Server 2005 Common Components/Workstation Components. The Installation Wizard kicked off, presented a System Configuration Check dialogue, that included a warning item "IIS Feature Requirement". I will try to attach the screenshot (BIDSInstall_NoIIS.zip). Thx.

  • IIS is required to installed Reporting Services, you can proceed with the install of BIDS without having IIS installed on the workstation.

    😎

  • Thats good news as I don't need Rpting Svcs. Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but Add/Remove Programs only shows a 'BIDS' workstation component for SQL2005 which lumps BIDS and Rpting Svcs, etc all together. So the IIS requirement is causing the whole installation to fail out. Meaning I don't see an option to selectively install the BIDS shell without Rpting Svcs.:w00t:

  • That I can't explain. I have installed all components of SQL Server 2005 Development Edition on both of my workstations, and assisted others with the installation on theirs with no issues installing BIDS. None of our workstations have IIS and therefore don't have Reporting Services. We use BIDS for both SSIS and SSRS (we have SSRS installed on one of our servers).
