  • Pl refer to SQL Server Books Online. It's a good resource.

  • I had responded to this post. Then I found out in another thread from this poster that they applied for a job, got interview questions, and doesn't have time to look up the answers themselves. So I removed my answer.

Here's the poster's comments from another thread:

FYI - this poster had this to say in another thread:

im oracle dba and applied for sql dba job and been given sql db questions, to answer and post it back havent got time to go through books and stuff, just quick, simple answer will do.

    never used sql db lol

  • SQL Server Books Online represent some of the best instructional "manuals" for any product in the industry. Here are the downloads for both SQL Server 2000 and 2005. The downloads are free and come with very well done indexes. You should be able to look up your specific topics in Books Online and get the answers you need. However, if you don't have SQL Server experience, it would be very good for you to install it, touch it, understand what it does, how it interacts with the operating system, the basic architecture, etc.

But I'm going to be quite blunt here. If you don't already know the difference between the two, I would not advise you pursue a SQL Server DBA job at this time. Keep in mind that you will be entrusted with someone else's data should you get the job. If you misrepresent yourself that is patently dishonest and puts those people who are depending on you at great risk. These two things are very basic knowledge concepts in operational SQL Server DBA work.

  • Yeah it hurts and looking at the other threads there are obvious things they are missing that even an Oralce DBA already knows. I will admit a lot of the SQL Server DBAs I have dealt with are Orale DBAs who were moved to SQL Server with no trying but 80% of the time they have a clue what to do.

  • And they keep harping on the fact they are one of the youngest Oracle certified DBA's. But I knew a guy who had a photographic memory - he passed every test he took the first time. Just couldn't do any of the jobs, knew the textbook answer though. Notice the poster doesn't say how much EXPERIENCE they have?

  • I would guess that you could interchange the words 'youngest' and 'most inexperienced' and the statement would still ring true.

"by the way im one of the most inexperienced oracle qualified dba !!! "
