Installing SQL Server 2008 Enterprise on Windows Server 2008 - windows installer 4.5

  • I'm having terrible problems trying to install SQL Server 2008 Enterprise on Windows Server 2008 Enterprise. First the install kept failing because it said .NET 3.5 wasn't installed (although it was). I got around this by replacing the .Net install file in the SQL Server install directories with what I had downloaded and run successfully.

Now the install is failing on the wrong Windows Installer version (it says I need version 4.5). I went out to the windows download, http://www.microsoft.com/DownLoads/details.aspx?familyid=5A58B56F-60B6-4412-95B9-54D056D6F9F4&displaylang=en, and selected Windows6.0-KB942288-v2-x86.msu (I have a 32 bit dual core processor). This is a new server - not an upgrade. I have an ACVPI x86Based PC. Intel dual core E2180 processor. When I try to install the 4.5 installer I get a message: "The update does not apply to your system".

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Windows server 2008 is coming in two flavors: 32 bit and 64 bit. Which one did you install?

  • We downloaded the x86 version which is 32 bit from msdn.

  • Actually, we downloaded and tried all 3 flavors of the 4.5 Windows installer and received the same error message.
