I've found that, on several occasions, I'll want an article in my briefcase but don't want or need to reply, yet would still like to keep track of the replies.
Probably a needless complication on my part, but I'm good at stuff like that. 😀

I assume you are asking for a subscribe to discussion link at the top of articles/editorials/qods. I agree that would be nice option also, but you can go into the discussion and subscribe without commenting.
At the top of each page in a topic there is a link called Topic Options that allows you to subscribe. This is a decent workaround.

I use the Subscribe button frequently, it's a matter of organization. Usually if I Briefcase an article, I also want to subscribe to it, but I don't always want to reply. Sometimes I'll Subscribe without wanting to Briefcase it or reply. And, of course, sometimes I'll Subscribe and then later reply, but that's the way it is.

It's not a bad idea, especially if you want to keep track of discussion on it. We have adding a discussion to the briefcase on the list, but it's a lower priority with some things broken.
I think there's something here, maybe some ergonomic way to add the discussion at the same time as the article.
