I'm monitoring a production sql 2005 instance, and I've noticed that there are Page Life Expectancy (PLE) values under 300 seconds during the day. Is this in and of itself an issue? The average for the day is 25000 seconds and the minimum is 63 seconds - this occurs during business hours. I record the PLE every minute during standard business hours and there are 121 values under the target value of 300 and 620 >= 300. Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated!

I actually read this and I'm looking for a bit of clarity ...
'Consistently low average page life expectancy'
My daily average is 25000 or so seconds, so I think that its not a 'consistently low average'. But I guess that most of these recommendations contain vague general language so its hard to get a hard and fast rule for this measure ....

There is no hard rule from MS to specify this number. Basic number for analysis is taken as 300 and afterwards it just depending on you application and server performance. Upto how much your client can take.
