Configuring a SQL server on Vmware

  • Is there any key differences in terms of the way you should configure a SQL Server, if it is on VmWare rather than a normal (non-virtualised server)?

  • Here is a description about the experiments with Linux+VmWare+MSSQL 2005: http://scottf.wordpress.com/2007/02/09/sql-server-on-vmware-server/[/url]

Here is an official document: http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-8964, http://blogs.vmware.com/vmtn/2009/04/virtualizing-sql-server-communities-roundtable-podcast-42.html

The previous post should answer your question

We have VMWare instances here, only things you might want to consider as well, is that to get the same performance as what you had on the old physical server, the vm machine will need to be spec'd higher. virtual machines are slower, and are used mostly for test and dev environments, not high intensive transaction processing systems.
