Error install SQL 2005 on WinServer 2003R2 SP1

  • Dear all,

    I try to install an SQL Server 2005 64bit Enterprise Ed. in a WinServer 2003 R2 SP1 64bit.

There is no problem in pre-installation requierement.

Configuration itself is almost using default configuration since this is a dedicated testing server.

But when the installation begin, comes the error :p

Here is the print screen :

Does anyone have any idea about this error?

Thanks for every suggestion or links 🙂

  • You need to look in the setup logs and post the errors here - looking at what you posted doesn't tell us what errors were encountered.

The setup logs are going to be in the folder C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Log. Start with the Summary.txt file - and work through the other directories to identify what the error is.

  • Here is the error in Summary.txt :

    Machine : ANCHOVY

Product : Microsoft SQL Server 2005

    Product Version : 9.00.1399.06

    Install : Failed

    Log File : C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG\Files\SQLSetup0014_ANCHOVY_SQL.log

    Last Action : InstallFinalize

Error String : The SQL Server service failed to start. For more information, see the SQL Server Books Online topics, "How to: View SQL Server 2005 Setup Log Files" and "Starting SQL Server Manually."

The error is (1053) The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

    Error Number : 29503

I tried to install the hotfix from microsoft website for this error 1053, but none of the hotfix are able to be installed on the server.

Other solution that I found, the problem might be in the processor since the processor has 12 core (Intel Xeon 2,4Ghz).

So, till now, i'm going to try the solution for processor problem 🙂

Hope this will solve the problem :w00t:

    Thanx.

  • Yups,

the problem is in the number of logical processor.

So, in order to install sql 2005, the number of logical processor has to be reduced into only 1 logical processor temporarily.

The complete solution is in this article : Microsoft Knowledge Base Article
