SQL 2008 R2 - Any Service Packs Required?

    We recently set up a virtual server for a new app with SQL 2008 R2 Standard 64-bit, build 10.50.1600.1 RTM.

    Is it necessary to apply SQL 2008 SP 1 to this instance, or have those fixes already been rolled into the R2 release?

    Not yet for R2, but SP2 is available for 2008

    SQL 2008 and 2008R2 are different versions and therefore on different release paths. Each will have their own service packs. there is not one out for R2 yet
