I have one scenario where SQL server 2005 and SQL server 2008 is installed on the same machine. We have moved all the SQL server 2005 databases to new version i.e. 2008. Now we want to uninstalled the SQL Server 2005.
As per my understanding uninstalling SQL server 2005 shoud not impact the nay services by SQL server 2008. Any idea will it impact SQL Server 2008? Your suggestions are appreciated.

Please make sure before you uninstall SQL 2005- If you moved over all the logins and database users,CLR assemblies, jobs, DTS/ SSIS packages, Linked servers, Replication, Mirroring, log shipping.

Stop the SQL Server 2005 related services and keep them disabled for a month or so.
Also preserve the backup of all the system and user databases of 2005 version.

We have moved all the objects from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008. its been a month now had stopped all SQL 2005 services. We are not using SQL Server 2005 anymore as we have upgraded to SQL Server 2008. My management has asked me "If we are not using it then take a decision, will uninstall SQL Server".

Well, i think that it should make any impact on uninstallation of the sql 2005.
Well try it at your end and share the result.

even i think it shouldnt be a problem but if any message or alert comes that any file is being shared, don't remove it.

In theory you should be OK. In practice you will have to try it and see if anything breaks.
My view is that it is a lower risk to leave SQL 2005 installed but set all services to Disabled. Also, if you are using WSUS or similar to get fixes supplied then get your serve marked as not requiring any more SQL 2005 fixes as most of them will not install if your services are disabled.

Hey You can uninstall the SQL Server 2005, I have tried it on my Local PC i didn't face any issues. But make sure that you have moved all the logins, jobs and etc..
