I am running the following on my server:
SQL Server 2008, SP 1, CU 1 (x64) (10.00.2710.00).
Microsoft Visual Studio 2008
Version 9.0.30729.1 SP
Microsoft .NET Framework
Version 3.5 SP1
SQL Server Reporting Services
Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services Designers
Version 10.0.2531.0
+++++++++++++++++++
Installed on my workstation are:
Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 10.0.1600.22 ((SQL_PreRelease).080709-1414 )
Microsoft Analysis Services Client Tools 2007.0100.1600.022 ((SQL_PreRelease).080709-1414 )
Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2000.085.1132.00 (xpsp.080413-0852)
Microsoft MSXML 2.6 3.0 4.0 5.0 6.0
Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0.5730.13
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0.50727.3615
Operating System 5.1.2600
Microsoft Visual Studio 2008
Version 9.0.30729.1 SP
Microsoft .NET Framework
Version 3.5 SP1
Installed Edition: IDE Standard
SQL Server Reporting Services
Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services Designers
Version 10.0.1600.22
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Our financial system, which is the Primary Application on the SQL server constrains the SP/CU level that we can install on this server.
My question is, what levels of SSMS and SSRS can I install on my workstation without creating conflicts with the server apps and data? Can I safely upgrade SSMS and SSRS on my workstation?

You should not upgrade past what the server is. If you have dev edition, keep that in sync with the server by applying the same SPs and CUs.

Not the answer that I was hoping for, but thanx.
The initial reason for the post was prompted by a failure of hyperlinks to work properly in a report, but I will create a new post for that.
Thanx again.

Versioning is hard, especially when you combine with VS.
For this specific config, it's just hard to say. So many things, unfortunately, can update some of those shared components, and it can be hard to track down issues. My advice is stick with the same version as the server for client tools/BIDS.
