SQL Server 2008 R2 Installation won't start

  • Installing SQL 2008 R2 on a windows 2008 cluster.

We had some problems with the last install, so we uninstalled completely, rebooted both servers (a and b).

Now on server "b", after the support files install, the install doesn't start.

    The error:

Failed to update registry settings for SQL Server Network Interfaces. Instance name MSSQLSERVER, instance ID MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER: 11001

    Has anyone seen this before?

  • Looks like I may have answered my own question. Researching this phrase doesn't bring alot of results.

However, the error at the end of the phrase (11001):

Failed to update registry settings for SQL Server Network Interfaces. Instance name MSSQLSERVER, instance ID MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER: 11001

I found this link, which contains a fix for that error:

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms189117.aspx

I'll let you know how it pans out.

    Thanks.
