    I am not sure I agree that the Witness is not applicable, though. According to Microsoft's documentation, you can setup a witness in High Performance mode, but it provides no benefit and introduces additional risk. Source (Impact of Witness Section):

    I have never personally tried to create a witness in High Performance mode, so I don't know if there are benefits that the documentation neglects to mention. Does anyone more versed care to share some knowledge in this matter?

    A good question, glad I had my first cup of morning coffee before attempting to answer. Rather surprised at the low percentage (34%) of correct answers. So congratulations to the author as the QOD not only tests ones knowledge, but teaches those who do not know the subject and this question will teach many.

    If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something.

    Thanks for sharing this information. I didn't know that we could use a witness server in high performance mode. Not sure about the benefits though. Also, why would we need to introduce this witness server in high performance mode if a quorum needs to be maintained between either principal or mirror for the setup to be functional.

    A witness server's only purpose in life is to help negotiate automatic failover. If automatic failover is impossible, as is the case with high performance mode, then there is no reason to have a witness server, and so it truly is not applicable.
