relationship between statistics and indexes

  • Hello all.

I have a table called 'Prt_cash_table'. In this table i have a column called as 'portfolio' which in int Datatype.

I am changing this Datatype from int to varbinary(max) for some business requirements.

So to serve the needs, i am dropping all the indexes and constraints on the column and then i am altering the table for the new Datatype i.e. varbinary(max)

So my question is: What if i have statistics defined on this column at the first place? Would it let drop the index?

What happens if i drop the index without dropping statistics defined on to it. Please let me know.

    thanks

  • Dropping the index will drop the stats associated with that index.
