    Can reports developed in the 2008 R2 RS tools be deployed on 2008 RS servers?

    Yes. If you pull up the project properties for the SSRS project in BIDS, you can change the target server version from 2008 R2 to 2008.

    Question: Can reports developed in SSRS 2008 R2 be deployed to SSRS 2008 R1 servers?

    Answer:

    Under target of Project Properties (Visual Studio), select SQL 2008.

    Then click on deploy.

    If you don't select SQL 2008 then you will end up deploying report in R2 mode to a SSRS 2008 (R1 mode) reportserver, you will get an error / report won't work.

    Remember to change back to SQL 2008 R2 mode before deploying reports developed in SQL 2008 R2 to SSRS 2008 R2.
