MSDTC resource not coming online

  • Iam not able to bring the MSDTC resorce online. This is on windows 2008 R2 (SP1). I have create computer objects permission and manually also I have created the resource name in the AD computers. But it still fail.

    Please do help.

    Error

    ==========

    Cluster network name resource 'mssqldtc' failed to create its associated computer object in domain 'sapient.com' for the following reason: Unable to create computer account.

    The text for the associated error code is: Access is denied.

    Please work with your domain administrator to ensure that:

    - The cluster identity 'sql2008WIN$' can create computer objects. By default all computer objects are created in the 'Computers' container; consult the domain administrator if this location has been changed.

    - The quota for computer objects has not been reached.

    - If there is an existing computer object, verify the Cluster Identity 'PSSTWIN$' has 'Full Control' permission to that computer object using the Active Directory Users and Computers tool.

  • You should try what follows:

    Create manually the object named "mssqldtc"of type "computer" in your AD Domain through Active Directory Users & Computers. Disable it and then try again to bring your ressource online.

    Let me know if you achieved your goal.

    Check in AD whether the computer account already exists

  • Thanks Perry manually creating the computer objects in AD for MSDTC and restarting the service had helped me, but Iam once again receiving the same type of error for SQL Serevr installation. In input on this.

  • I had a similar thing happen just this last week. I had to delete the cluster resource and then recreate it.

    The other note that seems interesting is that you got it working for a bit and then it seems that AD went hinky on you again. Have you checked with the Domain Admin to see if there are Domain issues or DC issues?
