Start Learning DataWareHousing

    My boss has given me task of "Create DataWareHouse". Please suggest me basic level tutorials to start with.

    What are the requirements to create DataWareHousing in SQL SERVER 2008R2.

    First of all, read the Data Warehouse Toolkit by Ralph Kimball.

    Practically an industry-standard, and a must read for everyone who starts in data warehousing.

    The book suggested by JonFox is an adapted version specifically for the Microsoft products.

    If you finished the books, learn more about SSIS, SSAS and SSRS.

    In total, this is about 1 month of classroom training, just so that you know what you're up against.

    And not to forget Bill Inmon's Corporate Information Factory. You would be biased, if you read Kimball and ignore Inmon.

    Your boss will need to give you a lot of extra time. If there is any complexity to your business, and the assumption is that it would be, this is not a side-project.

    For Week #1, do nothing but interview people in your business and IT department, asking them what enterprise data needs they have. What do these people want to get out of a datawarehouse?

    And just as importantly, don't try to do it all at once. By interviewing the business community you should be able to identify key aspects, questions that need answering, and target those first. Build the data warehouse incrementally with useable rollouts every 60 to 90 days.
