Does fill factor affect performance of insert statement execution?

  • If I have 85 for fill factor will my inserts run faster vs. inserting with default fill factor of 0/100? Why?

  • Maybe. If an insert has to go on a page and there's no space, the page splits and that's an expensive operation, the 85% fill factor ensures there will be some free space after the rebuild
