Attaching MDF/LDF hosted on another server / mapped drive

    Hi Everyone,

    Although clearly not best practice for a produciton DB, does anyone know if it is supported to attach MDF/LDF files that are hosted on a network drive?

    I have been exploring options to host a read only archive database that we need to access on a very short term adhoc basis and this was an idea suggested by one of our consultants.

    Seems this is actually possible - see here http://sqlmag.com/blog/sql-server-2012-databases-file-shares - take a look in Google.

    However note the network share must be NTFS windows server , can't be a linux based NAS for example
