SSRS Deployment Permissions

  • Hi

I have recently started a new company and am configuring SSRS and setting up some reports. However, when i try to deploy i am getting an error on permissions.

The permission granted to user 'me' are insufficient for performing this operation

I am on a VM server, logged in as myself, not admin.

I have sys admin rights on the ReportServer db but can't select the RSExecRole as i get an error

    ------------------------------

Cannot use the special principal 'dbo'. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 15405)

    For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?ProdName=Microsoft%20SQL%20Server&ProdVer=11.00.5058&EvtSrc=MSSQLServer&EvtID=15405&LinkId=20476

    ------------------------------

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks

    George

  • The permission role on the ReportServer DB is something completely separate to the ability to deploy reports. That role is there mainly for the SQL service agent, so that when a subscription is run, it can actually run the report.

On your Reporting Services portal (by default located at http://[ServerName]/Reports), the user who is deploying needs to have permissions to do so. Within there you have Site Settings, where you can set the permissions. You can also set permissions for individual folder and reports, if required.

  • That's kind of what i thought. Problem is i can't even access the report manager page due to permissions. Do i need to get the admin account to give me permissions?

    Thanks

  • Who are you trying to access it as, yourself? Who did you set as an administrator of Reporting Services when you did the install? Log into the Portal using that account.

You should be able to get in yourself - go to the Report Manager URL by right clicking on IE and select Run As Administrator.

  • hmm, i did add myself (current user) when i did the install. I have resoved it by getting one of the domain admin guys to login into the VM under the local admin account, log into the report manager and give me all permissions.

It seems to have done the trick 🙂
