Microsoft technet web page states that the AWE memory option will be removed in "the next version" of Microsoft SQL Server.
We have two 32 bit servers running SQL 2008 R2 RTM on Windows Server 2003 (one of them) and Windows Server 2008 (the other), and both have AWE enabled. We want to upgrade these to SP3 of 2008 R2. The Upgrade Advisor says this needs to be removed before we upgrade.
Is this "next version" 2008 R2 SP3, or SQL 2012? Due to application issues cannot yet go to 2012 or 2014.
Any thoughts on what will happen when we upgrade?
I may end up turning it off, bouncing the server, doing the upgrade, then see what happens when I turn it back on after the upgrade.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts!
