web configuration of Master Data Services SQL Server 2016

  • I installed Master Data Services (SQL Server 2016 Developer SP1) on a Windows 10 Enterprise machine. Using Master Data Services Configuration Manager, I did the following: For the create database I entered computername\username, was successful (I used a local account on Windows 10). For the web configuration (create new website or use default website) I entered computername\username (I used a local account on Windows 10), when trying to enter password I get notification: 'the user does not match a known account in Active Directory'. I suspect issue lies with IIS 10 of Windows 10 Enterprise.

On the web configuration, you need to enter a user from Active Directory. Refer to the user name in the Application Pool section of this document:
Create Web Application Dialog Box (Master Data Services Configuration Manager)

  • Hi Sue_H, I eventually installed MDS on Windows Server.
For the web configuration (I selected create new website), entered computername\username (I used a local account on Windows Server, I did not use an Active Directory account), entered password, worked (no errors). So the issue lies with IIS of Windows 10 Enterprise. Seems SQL Server 2016 is meant to be installed on Windows Server (especially if using MDS - due to IIS).
