Which one is good, Veritas Clustering or Windows 2000 Clustering.

    Hi

     

    We are planning to going from SQ*Server 2000 signal machine to clustering environment.  During  evaluation face we would like to know which clustering is better Veritas (  any third party )  or Window 2000 native clustering.   

     

    Please advice let me know your comment and advice

    There are a lot of factors that weigh into this decision, so no one is going to be able to say, "This clustering solution is best," without knowing the facts of your implementation. Can you provide a bit more details about what you're trying to do and how you're looking to set things up?

    Thank Brain. Here is more information...

    We have application, which started with small project but now it became monster.  Six month back database size was 10gb now it 90gb and number of transaction is growing fast.  Management would like

     

    Support:            24 x 7 x 365

    Application:  4 application server with load balancing and fail over capacity

    Storage:            Using in house SAN

    Network:            Redundancy in network.

    Database:            2 node clustering (either Windows or Veritas )

    Maintenance:            Schedule downtime allowed.

     

    Let me know if you need specific info.

    Microsoft Clustering Services works just fine for this. I'm not very knowledgeable on the Veritas side, I've mostly seen it cited when you want to do clustering with servers not in the same physical location.

    I'd agree with Brian, we have a very similar situation and manage perfectly well with MSCS.  I've done some research into Veritas clustering in the past and whilst it looks good we decided to use the MS offering instead, primarily based on the cost differences.

    Veritas have got some very clever software and do a lot on the virtual storage side but I've always been too afraid to ask how much it costs in a real world environment rather than something being demonstrated at a conference.

    For a local site implementation I would stick with MSCS - better support given for known configurations.

    If you are looking at geographic clustering then you will have to look at 3rd party options (ie Veritas) as MSCS will not handle the heartbeat latency of WAN links.
