I need longer!!

  • Can someone lengthen the 'timeout' when replying or creating messages in a forum?  I've been composing a reply, posted it then , whoops, it doesn't appear as a new thread!

  • The site owners cannot keep things open forever. Just try to get in the habit of selecting everything with CTRL-A then copying with CTRL-C .... this way those long important posts will not disappear ... you can simple paste them back in !

Sometimes the low-tech common sense method is the best. After all, you wouldn't edit an important program or script for hours without saving it every once in a while - like every 15 minutes or so - would you ?

  • This is a common problem in many sites that support forum/blog type entries. What I (and many others) do is write our post in notepad or other text editor, then cut and paste into the forum entry screen when we're ready.

FYI, don't use a word processor (Word/Wordpad/WordPerfect) for this since they add non-standard characters for pretty formatting. A lot of sites can't handle the non-standard characters and either display odd characters or refuse to accept your data at all.

  • I must admit that I usually do write in Notepad  but occasionally then, when I've pasted into the message, I start to re-compose, re-read, amend and then get interrupted.  I appreciate that you can't hold sessions open for ever but it seems, sometimes,  to timeout very quickly.
