SQL Server 2005 64-bit Total Server Memory(KB)

  • Hello!

We have just configured SQL Server 2005 64-bit two node active/passive cluster with 32 GB of RAM. I have limited SQL Server memory usage to 26 GB. Total Server Memory (KB) shows value 16MB at the moment. Target Server Memory (KB) is showing 27262976 (26 GB).

I am wondering if such low value of Total Server Memory is expected since SQL Server just started and there is not much going on. I would expect this value to increase over time.

    Any comments are greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Igor

  • Yes , client connection increase, maintainence jobs run and data grows you would see increase in memory usage.

It is normal since you have just started it.

    Cheer Satish 🙂

  • a warm server should show very different memory usage

if you've only just started it, monitor for a week or so

  • I run a similar A/P cluster, running 64-bit Enterprise.

Each node has 64GB of memory. At pressent the active node is using 14GB of memory (even though it has been capped at 58GB) and the passive node is running at 1.18GB for the entire server inc O/S.

We are poc'ing sharepoint at the moment and when its being tested the memory usage on the active server goes up and comes back down when usage slackens off.

Of course we have 32-cores per node, of which each core has 8MB onbaurd cache so its never busy for long 😉
