Replicated database on DR site

  • Hi,

    Background:

I have few databases which are replicated in LIVE env. All databases (master, msdb, distribution, publisher and subscriber) are shipped to DR site and T-Logs are applied for all user DB's and distribution db .

After the replication was set master, msdb were restored on DR site on all three servers (PUBLISHER, DISTRIBUTOR and SUBSCRIBER). Though all the SQL AGNET is down for all three servers. On DR site Server Name, Domain name ,service a/c , snapshot folder is same as LIVE.

    Question:

If we have to evoke DR plan, will the replication be pickedup by its own (after doing necessary task like restoring missing t-logs and restoring master ,msdb db and enabling SQL Agent) or I need to drop and reapply all the scripts.

  • hi,

Absolutely no warranty that it will work. That is, it will work in case the state of the publisher and distributor and subscriber databases are taken from the very same moment. Still, you may want to check the sync with backup option if it can help you. you may also want to check if replicating directly to your DR site (instead of logshipping a subscriber database) can help you.

But do not believe anyone - test it for yourself. This is the only way to get a picture of how valuable your DR solution is.
