  • What edition of 2k8 are you trying to install (dev, enterprise)?

Where did you get the installable? Via download? It sounds like a corrupt installable.

  • Known issue, try rerun setup again and you should be ok.

  • I tried to install 2k8 developer edition.

    I downloaded from torrent.

  • It might be useful.

FIX: Error message when you install SQL Server 2008 on a computer that is running Windows 7: "Invoke or BeginInvoke cannot be called on a control until the window handle has been created."

Not a good idea as this is piracy. Reported to admins.

You could download EVAL version from Microsoft site. That’s the authentic way of doing it.

If you are using it for personal use you should download the Express version. Otherwise fork up the $20 for dev edition.

It doesn't matter - it is still piracy. The developer edition costs $50.

Yeah - you still have to be careful there. Not sure what the resell laws on that software are. πŸ˜‰

FYI, Microsoft told me if I hold that certificate in my hand (or own the box it is on) I am good. Of course I suppose people could counterfeit that as well. Not likely for Dev edition though. Also, for anyone out there who is a student... You can go to dreamspark.com and register for FREE full versions of Microsoft products while you are in school. This includes SQL Server and Windows Server.
