"shrink" sql 6.5 tempdb

  Our dev sql 6.5 box (the last one in the joint!)had its tempdb device extended with a 2GB "tempdb_ext" device. It's now way to large but I have not been successful in either removing the device extension or trimming its size. Any ideas how to do this?
