SERVICES.EXE runaway

  • I have a Server SQL 2K, SP3, IIS installed (to receive FTP files), Outlook configured which has a runaway Services.exe.

The process takes between 45 - 60% of CPU. I have ran virus checks - clean, checked technet, etc.. found nothing.

Has anyone else had this problem? Can anyone point me in the right direction to fix it?? My support group has been unable to find a fix as of yet either.

    Thank you for any help.

  • Services.exe is the services manager for the OS. The only KB article I've found (perhaps others will have better luck) is if it is started interactively.

  • Unfortunately, this is started automatically. I have found KB 328885 and some others. I have patched the server with a fix for the above KB (received from MS and looks to be part of SP4) no help.

I have found some articles RE: this and multi. NICS however have 5 other servers same config and no issue.

    Thanks,
