Reply -> Preview -> Post

  • Hi guys,

After writing a reply and previewing it, when i went to post I got a run-time error (line 117).

Also, when attempting to *start* a reply the page takes a long time to start up ( i hit 'stop' on my browser and then refresh, which then gets it editable).

    Steve.

  • We've seen the same thing sporadically. My guess is that some of the client side script is hanging up. We'll try to get it resolved tomorrow. I'll take a look at preview.

  • Thanks Andy.  Here's a good one for you...

I received the html notification that you had posted a msg on this thread.  I clicked on the link as posted in the email ...

    http://qa.sqlservercentral.com/forums/shwmessage.aspx?forumid=4&messageid=93401

this then *resolved/went to* the following address...

    http://qa.sqlservercentral.com/forums/shwmessage.aspx?forumid=4

Now, with a little testing, I found that if I had a SSC page open already, then the url remained unchanged and loaded to the correct forum thread, if there was no page open prior to clicking on the link in the email, then it was corrupted.

Am using WInXP and Outlook 2003, do you think it's client side??

    Steve.

  • Further to my last post, the page open in abroswer *must be* a SSC page, a blank page or page from another site won't do (ie the URL gets corrupted/cut off).  Do you think it has to do with the asp.net forms security??

    Steve.

  • I see it. We're doing a little magic behind the scenes to populate the session vars on both sides, I'm missing something on the redirect where its not preserving the referring page.

  • Ahhh, *magic*, my favourite type of coding...

I really like the new site tho!

    Steve.

  • Well, not that magical. Seems more exciting to say it is. Glad you like it. Hopefully everyone will be patient with us for a day or two while we sort things out. The old forums were truly horrible to maintain, classic ASP spaghetti code, no stored procs, etc.

  • Give it a try now.

  • Hi Andy,

    That works perfectly now.

My only concern now is that it's taken me ~ 5 minutes to get to writing this reply, as when the 'posting' page loads, it's getting stuck on loading some object (not sure what). i.e. I still have a page sitting here saying (in status bar) "(1 item remaining) Opening page post.aspx......." , and the world keeps on spinning in IE.

To get to this page, I did a CTRL-N (new page, loads using previous url) and then hit Stop  on the browser.  Just btw, hitting stop on the other page make no difference.  I'm reasonably sure it's not our line speed (~ T1 conxn speed here).

I initially thought it was to do with the rich text box control on the page, but the textbox used for the subject won't allow entry either.  Basically the page will scroll, i can highlight text on the page, all the ads are in place etc etc but I can't *edit* anything.

    Steve.

  • Further to last post, it's really quite strange... I can add smilies etc (ie buttons on the toolbars are working), I can change the check status on the "email me when..." but the text box controls aren't letting me do anything...

    Steve.

  • I know. Im not a web guy, going to ask one tomorrow! Acts as if the control is just disabled. If you watch the status bar sometimes it snaps directly to 'Done', other times it just hangs trying to open, even though the page is rendered. Not sure how/where to troubleshoot. Not a db issue!

  • We made two pages!!

Which of course has prompted a new request...  the link to the thread doesn't take you to the *current* page.  Obviously a very easy thing to implement

    Steve.

  • This is voodoo, but sometimes clicking post with no message helps, sometimes multiple refreshes, or like now, it just works the first time.
