    How can I create an alert to email me when a backup completes?

    I am using Backup exec 8.5 to perform the backup but there is no email facility with it and you don't use the SQL Server agent to schedule/ run the jobs. All very confusing.

    You can have the job result to log in to Windows Event Log, and then write a program to notify you. There are several products outside to monitor things like this. For example NetIQ, Patrol. If your company can’t afford the cost, I the best way is to Configure a SQL Mail and then Write SP to monitor the Event log and use XP_Sendmail to notify the user.
